I decided to take the slow boat in the end. After a bit of researching that seemed to be the best option. A two days trip down the Mekong river to Luang prabang with a overnight stop in Pakbeng.

I left the hostel at 10am to get down to the boat, the do fill up the boat and the people that arrived late needed to sit in the "engine room"
But the boat didn't leave until it was full, and that took at least 1,5h before that happend..

It wasn't as boring as I thought it would be! I met some cool people on the boat so it was actually pretty enjoyable. And the scenery wasn't to bad, water buffalos, elephants, small villages on the way, a nice landscape, and just to be near the water was great.

Pakbeng didn't offer much more then a place to sleep and some story to buy food and snacks for the boat trip. One bar an some tiny restaurants. The village more or less existed because of that the slowboat    needs to do a stop there.
